You are walking back from a meeting and the follow-ups are in your head, not on paper. Typing while walking is slow. You can hold the mic key on the keyboard and dictate into Instant Note today, and that works for a sentence. It does not keep the audio, and it stops when you pause too long. Dictating into Notion covers how far that gets you.

A real voice note would be a button in Instant Note for Notion. Tap, talk for as long as you need, tap again. The transcript becomes the text of the row and the recording is attached to it, so you can check what you actually said when the transcript gets a name wrong.

How it would work

  • On iOS 26 and later the transcription would run on the phone with Apple’s Speech framework, which no longer has the old one-minute cutoff. Older iPhones would fall back to the previous recogniser, with its limits. Android would use the system speech recogniser.
  • The transcript is written into the page body in blocks of up to 2,000 characters, which is the Notion limit per text block. Tags come from your select properties as usual.
  • The audio file (.m4a) is uploaded with Notion’s file upload API into a Files property on the same row. On a free Notion workspace a file can be at most 5 MiB, which is a few minutes of compressed audio, so long recordings would need a paid workspace or would keep the audio on the phone.
  • The note sits in the offline queue if there is no signal, same as text.
  • Nothing goes to a transcription server of mine. The audio goes from your phone to Notion.

Worth knowing: Notion’s own Agents app can take a voice note and file it with Notion AI, for workspaces on a paid AI plan. This would be the plain version: your words, your database, no AI in between.

Is this built?

No. The keyboard mic is what exists now. The feature on this page is an idea I am weighing against the others on the list. Pressing the button below tells me you want it.

Would you use this?

Yes, I want this
