You are reading an article on the train and want to keep it. Notion’s own clipper sits in the Share Sheet and it saves the link. That part works. What it does not do is ask which tags to put on it, remember a database other than the last one you used, or work when the train goes into a tunnel.

Instant Note takes text and images from the Share Sheet already. The clipper I am considering would treat a link differently: read the page’s title and a short excerpt, let you pick tags from your select properties, and save all of it as one row. Later, in Notion, you filter the database by tag and the reading list sorts itself. Saving links to Notion from the iPhone describes what you can do today and when Notion’s clipper is the better choice.

How it would work

  • The Share Sheet extension receives the URL and the page title from Safari or Chrome. On Android, the same through the system share target.
  • The extension fetches the page once and reads the title, description and first image from the page’s own metadata. Nothing passes through a server of mine.
  • Title goes into the Title property, the link into a URL property, the excerpt into the page body, tags into your select or multi-select properties. The database you picked for a site is remembered for next time.
  • Offline: the row waits in the queue with the link and whatever was fetched before the signal dropped.
  • Full-page capture, the whole article saved as Notion blocks, is not part of this. Notion’s desktop clipper does that already. I would keep this one to title, excerpt and tags.

With Notion’s clipper free and in every Share Sheet, this is the item on the list I am least sure about. Tags, a chosen database and offline are the whole argument. If that argument is enough for you, say so.

Is this built?

No. Instant Note accepts shared text and images now; the link handling, excerpt and per-site database described here do not exist. The button below is the vote.

Would you use this?

Yes, I want this
